Media Statement – SAFDA Executive Chairperson relinquishes the CEO role

In a quest to foster good governance, uphold accountability, ensure longevity and to
catapult the organisation into the next decade of growth; the Executive Chairperson today
sponsored a resolution at the special meeting of the Central Committee, to decouple the
role of the Chairperson and that of the Chief Executive Officer, which in 2017 was combined
into the role of the Executive Chairperson.

The Central Executive Committee engaged in robust discussions on the proposal and
agreed to embark on a constitutional process to give effect to the resolution.
The Chairperson then announced the appointment of Mr Anwhar Madhanpall (Head:
Development Finance) and Mr Sfiso Mnguni (Head: Grower Affairs) to act as joint CEOs to
lead the administration of the organisation until such time that a permanent CEO is
appointed.

Both Anwhar and Sfiso bring depth of experience in agriculture, land reform and community
development as well as executive leadership accumulated from years of working in private,
public and non-profit sector organisations. The leadership expressed its full confidence in
the two professionals as being fully capable of steering and providing effective professional
and executive support to the organisation.

The CEC supported a move for SAFDA to engage with Izwi Labantu Forum on matters of
contention in order to build relationships, resolve differences and jointly champion the black
farmer support agenda
